(Occupational health and safety act) as well as Instruction 171 of the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act No 130 0f 1993″ (COID Act)

When are hearing tests mandated?
Employees that need to undergo audio testing, need to be 16 hours noise free before the test is conducted.

How long does this take? The process typically takes 15-20 minutes per person.

Why should a diagnostic audiogram be conducted?
In cases where Percentage Hearing Loss (PHL) is 10% or more, we have our own in-house Audiologist, who specialises in Noise Induced Hearing Loss claims with the compensation commissioner and to give employees hearing aids, when indicated.

When should a diagnostic audiogram take place?Appointments are usually made at one of our Occupational Health Referral Clinics offering diagnostic audios is usually on a Monday morning as the regulations require a longer period of no noise exposure than for normal screening tests.

We do consult for clients who have not been screened by us, we are happy to continue with the necessary follow-up on behalf of in house Occupational Health Nurse Practitioners as well as outsourced Occupational Health Service providers.

Not all hearing tests are created equal

According to current legislation all audiometric screening must be done in a calibrated, audiometric booth.

All audiometric screening is performed in accordance with the NIHL Regulations (NIHL Regulation) and in accordance with SANS 0083:2012 and SANS 8253:1.

Why should one’s vision be tested?
Good vision is necessary for most jobs, it is a key requirement for most employees to have good vision in order to effectively perform their daily tasks.

    What we offer:
We offer two different types or “levels” of vision screening testing within industry.

Snellen testing (basic test for distant vision only):
This is by means of using a traditional “Snellen eye chart”.
The outcome is a result of distant vision in left, right and both eyes.

    Advanced vision screening
This is by means of progressive testing with advanced, electronic Vision Screeners.

    The outcome includes:
Visual acuity (both eyes individually and together),

        • colour blindness,
        • peripheral vision,
        • depth perception and
        • glare recovery.

This testing is trusted by occupational health professionals to evaluate employee visual fitness of all levels of employment.

When should one’s vision be tested?
If your vision acuity is a prequisite for your job,it is important to undergo a vision screening.Drivers and forklift drivers need to undergo vision screening as their vision acuity is of utmost importance in their jobs.

    How long does it take?
The process typically takes 15-20 minutes per person.

Biological monitoring is the only practical way of measuring an employee’s individual exposure to chemicals, paint or other sources, i.e. by the analysis of metabolites or the measurement of actual chemical levels in a urine or blood sample.

    Why conduct biological monitoring?
In order to comply with the requirements as stated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act no. 85 of 1993 and in order to prevent long term Occupational Illness in your employee, this testing needs to be done.

What chemical exposures need to be tested and when?
Chemical testing includes, but most certainly is not limited to the chemicals reflecting in table 3 (refer to table 3 of the Hazardous Chemical Substances Regulations)

    We offer:
On site testing to reduce loss of production.
